A story of my confused state

2018, I moved to Ogun state and had to seek employment in a school within my vicinity. As a Lagos teacher, I was used to a vibrant class, swift answers and mushy acts by my students. So I resumed at my new work place with that fully charged energy. The first day got me confused. I was to teach the primary classes, I started my class and it was obvious these children were not following. They could neither understand what I was saying nor did they show any bit of interest. It was then I knew I had to start from the scratch. First, I had to create a connection. I wanted them to understand that I am first their friend. I needed to set the foundation that they can have both a friend and teacher in one. After that, I came down to their level. I made them feel and appreciate every little progress they made. I built up their interest in education. We worked together, applying several strategies I discovered and created, and within some month the growth was evident. Eureka is a book that ...

LIFE FROM ART

I came across this beautiful photo on Mr Charles Omotayo Omotayo's facebook wall. The combination of a library,a lake and vegetation was artistically painted. To me,the painting conveys the message that you can juggle many activities/dreams and excel at them all. That's the first message. Two;life is always a combination. Sometimes, most of the things that make up this combination do not go down well with us, but if we do not resist the happening of these things, they come together to paint our lives with the colours of the rainbow, in spectacular and unique ways. I do not know how this is interpreted in any aspect of your life, but I want you to know that every fire gold passes through leaves it more colourful than it met it. Finally, the power of your mind is far greater than you. We all know the names of two or more people who are revered. These people do not have two heads; they harnessed the power of their minds. They engaged in critical thinki...

ARE YOU CONNECTED

On Tuesday I had to charge my phone with my laptop since the head of my charger got spoilt. My cord was connected to my laptop and to my phone, I turned my laptop on but my phone refused to charge. I thought the cord was faulty, so I changed the position but it still wasn't charging, I then decided to check my phone. When I checked my phone I noticed the phone wasn't connected to the cord, I fixed it and it started charging. It then occurred to me that the reason majority of us aren't growing is because we are not connected to the right source. What does it mean to be connected? It means to be fixed to a source which adds or diminish your growth(My definition) Just like I thought my phone was connected and wondered why it wasn't charging, majority of us think we are rightly connected but we have no growth to show for it. There is no way you would be rightly connected and have no growth to show for it. If you notice your level of growth last year is still the sam...

EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE BY OBAOLUWA

It is not good to involve in examination malpractice because of the following reasons: 1) It corrupts children because they believe they can cheat to get anything in life. 2) It makes our children unemployable e.g Companies won't employ them because they know nothing. 3) It makes children lazy e.g They believe they can pass the examination without reading. 4) It makes children problem in the society. 5) It makes children steal e.g When they don't know anything they steal to get money. 6) It makes children terrorists. E.g Children will be stealing, kidnapping to get what they want. 7) It makes children go to jail. E.g When they cheat and people catch them, they take them to jail. 8) It makes parents sad 9) It makes children not to pass their examination. E.g When the teacher put somebody that is not brilliant and they want to cheat from the person, they write nonsense. 10) It makes parents waste money. E.g When children don't know anything, parent waste money by pa...

EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE BY OKOLI

Examination malpractice is not good Examination malpractice is the act of taking answers to examination hall or bribing the examination conductors to make the child pass the exam. I have some points which I will like to delebrate on. Firstly it makes the children not to read their books and end up not having a proper education, they don't know that it scatters the child's future and endanger their life. Secondly in the country matters it corrupts the country and makes the country to lack lot of things. Thirdly, it teaches bad moral values and makes the children spoilt. Fourthly I also blame the parents because they sit there and help their children in achieving exams through examination malpractice. God condemns it and anyone who involves in it gets punished. There are some consequences for examination malpractice. 1) Shame: When one is caught in this act it brings shame. 2) Punishment: It involves when being caught the person will be punished. With these few points ...

VALUE YOURSELF

Thinking about my junior secondary schools days This handsome guy in my class wrote on the black board "Titi is the most beautiful girl in class" I was overjoyed, I felt on top of the world, I blushed. I walked with pride for a long time. I even made sure I never changed my hairdo. chai!!! I cried the day I learnt he left our school, who would make me feel good about myself? I was going through a lot at home, I felt I wasn't good enough, I felt I wasn't useful, I thought I was so ugly, I hated myself. Now you know why I was so happy when he declared my beauty! Thinking about that incident it became clearer why people get deceived easily. Imagine a child who was introduced into a world of hatred, imagine a child who have been made to believe they worth nothing. Imagine someone shows them a bit of love, what happens? They become so happy and eager to explore this new world and that's where rape, drug abuse and others comes in. Until you learn...

HAPPINESS the best medicine

Today our Pastor preached on happiness the best medicine, he talked about the benefits of happiness. I so much enjoyed the sermon because i could relate with it. Few years ago I use to hate myself, I hardly saw reasons to smile. Don't you try laughing or gisting beside me because my countenance would change thinking I am the reason for the discussion. I started having issues with my heart I couldn't sleep without putting a wet cloth on my chest. I feared I might have a heart attack because I was always thinking. I hardly slept, I do cry for no reason. To sum it up I HATED MYSELF I found myself in the University and I decided to start a new life there, I made new friends. I learnt to love myself I would look at myself in the mirror and sing my praise. I just decided to be happy no matter what happens I decided to reduce the rate at which I think Wetin wan happen go happen And to God be the glory the heart issues stopped, I became light inside The diffe...

IF... Power of words

If only you had told them they mean so much to you If only you had encouraged them If only you told them you notice their efforts If only you didn't shut them up when they tried sharing their problems with you If only you had told them ALL WILL BE WELL If only ... Maybe they wouldn't have felt so alone Maybe they wouldn't have felt useless Maybe they wouldn't have lost hope Maybe they wouldn't have committed suicide Maybe they would still be alive today Maybe... Little things that matters Its funny how people say nice things about the dead 99% of which they never said when the individual was alive Maybe they would have been alive today. Your words can save # Jesustibab

PICTURING THE END

I was at Adventist Primary School last month for their after school club and I anchored the art and craft class. I introduced them to recycle art and grouped them into 3 team with the task of making a cup from plastic bottle which I had earlier taught them. When they started the task I moved around to observe and assist them if need be. I noticed group 3 were lagging behind, the other groups were almost done with theirs so I asked the group leader why his group was that slow. " Aunty I want our own to be the best, that's why am taking my time"  I was shocked to hear that from a primary school student. I waited till when they all where through and I had to help fix the cup to complete it. I tried that of group A and tried fixing it but it couldn't fit in, group B's own also didn't fit in. But surprisingly when I took group C's cup it fit in immediately. "Aunty you see what I told you" he said as he and his group rejoiced. I was really...

HOW TO COPE WITH SLOW LEARNERS

I remember my first experience with a slow learner. At first I thought he was just lazy but later I realised it wasn't laziness. He was always quite, doesn't answer questions in class and rarely relate with his peers. Within months of my stay in the school I started noticing some changes in my boy. He now attempts assignment and classwork given. He talks in class and now relates well with his classmates. The trick is to first make them feel safe in class rather than make your expectations a burden to them. Over the years I've had to teach slow Learners and it has been a wonderful experience. The link below is a podcast where I talked on how to cope with Slow Learners. It's a ten minutes audio that summarizes strategies you can put in place when you have a slow learner in class. If you have questions, I'll be glad to answer them. https://anchor.fm/MissDairo%20/episodes/How-to-cope-with-Slow-Learners-ef5bj4 Don't forget to leave a comment and share w...

MAT 25:14-30 PARABLE OF THE THREE SERVANTS

Hello friends today we would be studying the book of MAT 25:14-30 in a different way SUMMARY OF THE PARABLE OF THE THREE SERVANTS a particular master was about to go on a journey so he gave his first servant 5 talents, the second 2 talents and the last servant 1 talent after which he went on his journey. the first servant traded with his talents and added 5 more to it, the second servant also did the same and added 2 more but the last servants thought that he has been cheated, he felt he wasn't loved by his master so rather than trading with his talent he hid it until the return of his master. When the master returned he asked of the account of the talents and all the servants gave accounts. He appreciated the first two servants and had the last one thrown into the wilderness. EXPLANATION OF THE PARABLE The parable above is just exactly what happened when we all were been sent to the world. We were given talents which we ought to trade with here on earth ...

FOODS THAT PROMOTE A CHILD'S GROWTH AND ABILITIES

A balanced diet of nutritious food is the key to a child's healthy growth and development. No food or food group will suddenly add inches to an aspiring dancer. Human growth depends on different organs and processes working together. A balanced diet of grains, fruits, vegetables, and proteins such, as milk, eggs, and meats, provides essential nutrients to all parts of the body so that every inch and pound gained is a healthy inch and pound. Breads and Grain Products Carbohydrates provide the energy kids need to grow and thrive. doctors recommends that about 60 percent of the calories children consume each day should come from carbohydrates found in whole-grain breads, pasta, waffles ,and cereals, both hot and cold. Grain-based foods that have undergone the least amount of processing and refining deliver the highest levels of nutrition to children. It's almost impossible to go wrong with oatmeal, although the instant varieties have high amounts of added sugar. Other food...
