2018, I moved to Ogun state and had to seek employment in a school within my vicinity. As a Lagos teacher, I was used to a vibrant class, swift answers and mushy acts by my students. So I resumed at my new work place with that fully charged energy. The first day got me confused. I was to teach the primary classes, I started my class and it was obvious these children were not following. They could neither understand what I was saying nor did they show any bit of interest. It was then I knew I had to start from the scratch. First, I had to create a connection. I wanted them to understand that I am first their friend. I needed to set the foundation that they can have both a friend and teacher in one. After that, I came down to their level. I made them feel and appreciate every little progress they made. On Tuesday I had to charge my phone with my laptop since the head of my charger got spoilt.
My cord was connected to my laptop and to my phone, I turned my laptop on but my phone refused to charge.
I thought the cord was faulty, so I changed the position but it still wasn't charging, I then decided to check my phone.
When I checked my phone I noticed the phone wasn't connected to the cord, I fixed it and it started charging.
It then occurred to me that the reason majority of us aren't growing is because we are not connected to the right source.
What does it mean to be connected? It means to be fixed to a source which adds or diminish your growth(My definition)
Just like I thought my phone was connected and wondered why it wasn't charging, majority of us think we are rightly connected but we have no growth to show for it.
There is no way you would be rightly connected and have no growth to show for it.
If you notice your level of growth last year is still the same level this year then you need to check your connection.
The first set of connection you need to check when having growth issues are:
Your friends
What you see
What you hear
What you digest
Some people say you have no control over what you see or hear but the truth is YOU ARE IN CONTROL.
You can't be in a brothel/club and expect to hear or see things that would impact you positively, likewise you can't be in a seminar/Empowerment forum and expect to see or hear vulgar words.
Unlike your phones which you unplug after been fully charged, there is nothing like been fully charged when it comes to human beings.
You can never stop growing, everyday you search for positive connections that would take would take your growth higher.
Not everyone should be your friend
Scrutinize people before making friends out of them because they have a big role to play in your growth.
Attend seminars, Youth Fellowships, Connect with great minds on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram e.t.c.
There are great opportunities everywhere but there is a level of growth you need at each step to access these opportunities.
