A story of my confused state

2018, I moved to Ogun state and had to seek employment in a school within my vicinity. As a Lagos teacher, I was used to a vibrant class, swift answers and mushy acts by my students. So I resumed at my new work place with that fully charged energy. The first day got me confused. I was to teach the primary classes, I started my class and it was obvious these children were not following. They could neither understand what I was saying nor did they show any bit of interest. It was then I knew I had to start from the scratch. First, I had to create a connection. I wanted them to understand that I am first their friend. I needed to set the foundation that they can have both a friend and teacher in one. After that, I came down to their level. I made them feel and appreciate every little progress they made. I built up their interest in education. We worked together, applying several strategies I discovered and created, and within some month the growth was evident. Eureka is a book that ...

EVEN IF YOUR FEET IS IN IT, YOUR HEAD MUST BE ABOVE IT

Mystery has always been an essential quality of  life. Sometimes,it's the bedrock of things beyond our field of vision or our scope of comprehension. What inspired me to write this is an interview I heard on the radio. Truly,if you can think it,then you can do/be it. The interviewee was a man who had some defects. He's deaf and can't speak well. Despite this,he knows whatever people are saying. You'd wondering how he does this. He lip- reads, that is,looking at the movements of the mouth in order to be able to fathom out what the person is saying. This,to me,is intriguing. Now,to the main quality the man has-I call it an inventor's brain. During the interview,I got to know that the man actually made a DVD player by himself using the local materials at his disposal. Before he did this,he went to learn how to repair electronic appliances for three months. The DVD player works well and he sells it for 3,000 naira. Then,he stopped selling it be...

You ain't gonna live forever

Nothing in life ever remains exactly the same. And no one for that matter. You either increase or decrease. You either improve or deteriorate. The person you were some years back is not the same person you are now. You have changed and you keep changing. Of a surety, we will stop growing in height and size, but our mental faculties never stop growing. This is to propel someone out there; to be the best you can be and to subject yourself to changes that will revolutionize your life for the better. Read extensively. Deliberately immerse yourself in God. Purposely etch your face on the memory of others. Consciously build a memorial in the life of others. Let your lifestyle command the regard of others. Build your self esteem on the foundations of God's word. Let your carriage be with style and grace. Improve your vocab. Widen your thinking capacity. Undertake elocution lessons if need be. Upgrade your fashion sense, moderately. Define who you are with ...

PROVISION FOR ALL

To me, the foremost thing on our minds now should be finding out the blueprints of the Creator for us this year, so as not to labour in vain. Like I wrote in my previous posts, aligning our dreams with the Creator's plans will save us the acrimony of seeing our cherished dreams crushed. Heed this advice and follow it through this year. Now,to the main thing on my mind, that was just a digression. I recall that some years back, spiritual inferiority was my second nature. I wired myself to think less of myself,as regards spirituality. I could not help wondering if I was not destined to be part of those who enjoy an intimate relationship with their maker. Perhaps,I would have to rely on using those who were destined as a means to glean the intricacies of the spiritual realm. I kept lingering in this state until I encountered some life-changing experiences(which I won't share with you but one). As I grew up spiritually, with the help of certain books I read especially Joyce ...

FARSIGHTEDNESS

One of the many things that came to mind is what I'll share with you in this post. I came across a person who has set standards for liking people, and pitiably, these standards express the myopic state of a human mind. This stirred something somewhat deep in my heart and I'll like the world to know. Something that will stay with us forever is the diversity of personalities and identities. An educated mind will set standards with this concept in mind. It's not wrong to decide who you like or not, what is unthinkable is when you base your criteria for liking people on almost negligible and shallow standards, such as financial status, ethnicity, good looks, etc. We should have the initiative to see beyond those, to search out the intents of the heart and the true colour of a person, before we decide who is worth our affection or not. Others should be judged on the basis of true character, not on some shallow good looks and the likes. High-quality people do not often c...

CONTAINER VS CONTENT

Am so tired, I cried out as I lazily entered the kitchen to get a glass of chilled water.  I noticed a plate of ice-cream on the table, "wow" I started thinking of how to scoop it.... ooohhh yummy... it was my favourite flavour STRAWBERRY!!! I was almost salivating, I staggered towards the table to lick the delicious ice-cream. I took a deep breath and opened the plate, OMG What a shame!!! I exclaimed when I opened the container only to discover it was detergent that was in the ice-cream container. Nonsense I hissed as I angrily walked out of the kitchen. It suddenly occurred to me that many of us are easily attracted by the container not minding the content. The content matters as much as the container. I was attracted to the container because its outward appearance spelled ice-cream but I was disappointed by the content. Your outward appearance attract people to you but your inward appearance determines if they would stay or leave. Am not saying your outward appear...

LIFE FROM ART

I came across this beautiful photo on Mr Charles Omotayo Omotayo's facebook wall. The combination of a library,a lake and vegetation was artistically painted. To me,the painting conveys the message that you can juggle many activities/dreams and excel at them all. That's the first message. Two;life is always a combination. Sometimes, most of the things that make up this combination do not go down well with us, but if we do not resist the happening of these things, they come together to paint our lives with the colours of the rainbow, in spectacular and unique ways. I do not know how this is interpreted in any aspect of your life, but I want you to know that every fire gold passes through leaves it more colourful than it met it. Finally, the power of your mind is far greater than you. We all know the names of two or more people who are revered. These people do not have two heads; they harnessed the power of their minds. They engaged in critical thinki...

HOW TO COPE WITH SLOW LEARNERS

I remember my first experience with a slow learner. At first I thought he was just lazy but later I realised it wasn't laziness. He was always quite, doesn't answer questions in class and rarely relate with his peers. Within months of my stay in the school I started noticing some changes in my boy. He now attempts assignment and classwork given. He talks in class and now relates well with his classmates. The trick is to first make them feel safe in class rather than make your expectations a burden to them. Over the years I've had to teach slow Learners and it has been a wonderful experience. The link below is a podcast where I talked on how to cope with Slow Learners. It's a ten minutes audio that summarizes strategies you can put in place when you have a slow learner in class. If you have questions, I'll be glad to answer them. https://anchor.fm/MissDairo%20/episodes/How-to-cope-with-Slow-Learners-ef5bj4 Don't forget to leave a comment and share w...

MAT 25:14-30 PARABLE OF THE THREE SERVANTS

Hello friends today we would be studying the book of MAT 25:14-30 in a different way SUMMARY OF THE PARABLE OF THE THREE SERVANTS a particular master was about to go on a journey so he gave his first servant 5 talents, the second 2 talents and the last servant 1 talent after which he went on his journey. the first servant traded with his talents and added 5 more to it, the second servant also did the same and added 2 more but the last servants thought that he has been cheated, he felt he wasn't loved by his master so rather than trading with his talent he hid it until the return of his master. When the master returned he asked of the account of the talents and all the servants gave accounts. He appreciated the first two servants and had the last one thrown into the wilderness. EXPLANATION OF THE PARABLE The parable above is just exactly what happened when we all were been sent to the world. We were given talents which we ought to trade with here on earth ...

FOODS THAT PROMOTE A CHILD'S GROWTH AND ABILITIES

A balanced diet of nutritious food is the key to a child's healthy growth and development. No food or food group will suddenly add inches to an aspiring dancer. Human growth depends on different organs and processes working together. A balanced diet of grains, fruits, vegetables, and proteins such, as milk, eggs, and meats, provides essential nutrients to all parts of the body so that every inch and pound gained is a healthy inch and pound. Breads and Grain Products Carbohydrates provide the energy kids need to grow and thrive. doctors recommends that about 60 percent of the calories children consume each day should come from carbohydrates found in whole-grain breads, pasta, waffles ,and cereals, both hot and cold. Grain-based foods that have undergone the least amount of processing and refining deliver the highest levels of nutrition to children. It's almost impossible to go wrong with oatmeal, although the instant varieties have high amounts of added sugar. Other food...
